 Spuds - Genuine Leather Footbags

The Spuds are Aroundsquare's offering to the wonderful world of footbags. Genuine leather footbags are very difficult to find, and quality ones are even rarer, so the Spuds are made to fill that gap: pocket friendly, easy to learn on, and capable of high-level play. They are hand-stitched from premium goatskin leather, built in a 14-panel design, and filled with custom 2mm stainless steel.

Natural leather gives these bags a break-in that is hard to replicate with synthetics. They start out relatively firm and structured, then soften, stretch gently, and settle in with use. The result is a footbag that becomes increasingly pliable and forgiving without losing its shape completely. Like most of our stuff, the Spuds are designed to get better with use and with age. 

The Spuds are offered in three sizes, each with its own feel.

• Original Spuds: The original ~35mm Spuds are sized down from conventional models for technical play, with around 50g of stainless steel fill. They are compact and quick, with a small target and plenty of weight for their size. This format is less forgiving than the larger sizes, but that is a large part of its character.
• Spud Plusses: The ~45mm Spud Plus model keeps the same ~50g fill while increasing the diameter, giving a more forgiving target and a little more squish on landings while retaining the compact feel.
• Doubleplus Spuds: The ~55mm Doubleplus Spuds are sized up to a generous ~55mm diameter with around 60g of stainless steel fill. They feel noticeably “emptier” than the smaller sizes, offering lots of squish for easy landings, while the leather gives good body for a floatier feel and more relaxed play.

Across the range, the natural leather is left looking like leather: a simple tan/brown with a smooth finish, rather than dyed into brighter colours. This lets the material speak for itself.

Note: The Spuds will not appear perfectly round due to the panel construction and being squashed during shipping, but will round out further as they are broken in during play.
