Nowhere Plank

Love it or hate it, we can all agree that the Nowhere Plank is a small rectangle. Across our broad range of products, if we're being real, the Plank stands out for being poorly designed as any kind of skill toy. The shape is not conducive to flipping around between the fingers. If you want that, our knucklebones are the evolved form, go buy one. The Plank is something else. It's effortless. If anything, it's more of a simple mindfulness tool than a skill toy. The Plank is something basic, even primordial. It just feels satisfying to hold in the hand. It is certainly possible to flip it around and do some basic manipulations with it, but where the Plank truly excels is in situations where full on manipulations would be an unwelcome distraction, either to you, or to others around you. Given the mindfulness aspect (now, here) and the idle meandering it supports (as opposed to conscious trickery), we've dubbed this little unit the Nowhere Plank. It may not be for you and that's fine. But if you're feeling it, we've got you.

Notes on the ultem editions: The ultem editions of the popular Nowhere Plank are very light in the pocket, as well as in the hand. As with our lighter weight deadeye coins and knucklebnones, manipulating the lightweight planks will take some getting used to, but as your hands become accustomed to the lighter touch they need, you'll appreciate how gravity stays out of the way and lets your hands just do their thing. The polished ultem has a gleaming appearance, and provides substantially more grip than the other finishes. The machined and sandblasted finishes are initially somewhat duller in appearance, and are softer and smoother in texture, with less grip, allowing them to glide more smoothly between the fingers.

Special note on the blasted ultem edition:  Please note that the blasted finish has a dull greyish appearance at first, and is fairly opaque looking. This is a result of the sandblasting process. However, once you begin handling the plank, the surface starts to transform almost immediately. The greyish colour yeilds to a deep amber, and the translucency starts to show. This is similar to the "finger polishing" effect you may be familiar with from other sandblasted items we offer, but it's much faster with the ultem--likely because of the relative softness of the material.

Notes on the ebony editions: The ebony version of the nowhere plank features the lovely heft of the material, and shows of the subtle grain patterns of the dark wood. While still very lightweight compared to the metal versions, the ebony edition is heavier than most woods, giving a satisfying feel in the hand. The ebony edition is offered in a raw machined finish, as well as a glossy polished finish. The machine finish has a matte appearance and tends to slide more easily through the fingers, compared to the glossy, polished edition.

Notes on the Acrylic Swirl versions: We've noted before that the Nowhere Planks make for a near perfect material showcase. And we knew before even requesting samples that these new acrylics would be mind blowing in plank format. They didn't disappoint. These lightweight planks are grippy, beautifully polished, and perfectly rounded for your idle manipulation and mindful meanderings.

Notes on the titanium versions: As with our other products, the titanium blasted finish tends to feel much smoother and less grippy in the hands compared to the polished versions. So, depending on your preference, you can choose the option that most interests you.

Notes on the Delrin versions: The delrin version of the Nowhere plank is lightweight, durable, and feels great in the hand. If you don't already love delrin, these planks will kindle a spark in your heart. The material is smooth and warm to the touch, unlike any other polymer materials we know. The finish is slightly polished, and has a soft grip to it that is noticeably different from acrylic, ultem, or any of the metals materials

Notes on the Clear Acrylic Ice Plank versions: The clear acrylic Ice Plank is one that we obviously had to make. It’s a lovely rectangular piece of clarity. These guys are light and grippy to keep you from fumbling them too much. They offer a unique little window into the world, and they’re darn photogenic to boot.

Notes on the Green Sandalwood version: The green sandalwood has a pronounced grain and beautiful colour variation which is brown but tinged green-grey. The matte machine finish is slightly dull in appearance but allows the fingers to feel and sense the grain of the wood. The polished/ waxed version is grippier and the shine really accentuates the beautiful look of the material.

Is in its own category. Feels great in the hand, no pressure to do/fail tricks or even use a certain way, just a nice plank to busy the hand idly. A new mainstay on my tray, along with a kbone, a slider, and a spinner.

    Surprisingly Addictive—A Tactile Gem

I picked up the Delrin Plank mostly out of curiosity and didn’t expect much—but it quickly won me over. The contrast between the ultra-smooth surface and the sharp, angular design makes it incredibly satisfying to handle. There's a raw, tactile appeal that’s hard to describe but easy to enjoy.

I’m a fan of Delrin in general, and this is no exception. That said, I do find myself wanting a bit more weight, so I’m considering a titanium or other metal version next.

If you’re into skill toys or manipulatives, the Delrin Plank is an easy recommendation—especially at its affordable price. It’s a low-risk way to find out if it clicks with you.

    Ebony Nowhere Plank . . .

While it is a Delrin Demi Plank that lives EDC in my pocket, I find myself reaching for the more substantial, full-sized wooden version while sitting at home reading or watching TV. I am enjoying the feel of a piano key spinning between my fingers.

Finally got my first ultem AO2 pieces this order and I understand the hype! I love all the planks for various reasons and this just adds another piece of variety to rotate in my collection. Simple but beautiful.

Should Be Called the 'Everywhere Plank'

--because I carry this chunky lil' prism guy on me at all times. What an austere lil piece of material.
