Aroundsquare's Hydra Begleri are a fun yet highly capable modern adaptation of the traditional Greek multi-bead begleri. The Mini Hydra design has been praised by elite players as one of the best begleri sets available, but it is equally great for beginners and advanced players alike. There is something special about the size, shape, weight, and multi-bead configuration that makes the Mini Hydras a favourite that players keep coming back to.
After nearly a decade of the original design, 2025 saw the introduction of minor adjustment.. an increase in the rounding around the edge of the beads--a small reflection of our incessant drive to refine and perfect even our most popular designs. The generous rounding on the beads makes them extremely comfortable to handle, and softens the impact on the hands during play.
The Mini Hydras are available in a range of material options. The Mixed Media setups are built with different material combinations which allow for different weight distributions (depending on how the beads are stacked) and a wide variety of aesthetic options.
Glow Delrin/ SS Edition The SS/Glow Delrin (POM) edition is terrific weight combination, with a powerful glow effect–most powerfully served in the natural white/greenish tone, but also impressive in the blue and pink/orange options. The Glow Delrin with Stainless Steel option pairs two stainless steel Mini Hydras with an Aroundsquare word mark laser etched on one side, and two Glow Delrin Mini Hydras. Glow colors: Glow Green, Glow Blue, Glow Red. Set weight: approx. 19 g.
Ebony/ Bronze Edition Classy and dang elegant, with that great mixed weighting of hefty bronze and lightweight wood. This is one of the only begleri sets we’ve made with bronze, and it pairs beautifully with the lightweight ebony beads. Each set includes two Bronze Mini Hydras and two Ebony Mini Hydras. Set weight: approx. 21.5 g.
Acrylic/ SS Editions The acrylic/ SS, the same funky and brilliantly unique acrylic swirl material we've used in our other acrylic releases, but varied just enough that each set will be a special one of a kind experience. This edition is coming in four different variants being a jade green, a warm orange, a subtle pink, and a fourth mashup which can only be referred to as gumball machine. The stainless steel beads feature an "aroundsquare" word mark, laser etched on one side.
Delrin/ SS Editions The extremely popular Delrin /SS Mini Hydra combo is available in the classic Black, White, Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow you know and love. Just like the acrylics, the Delrin beads feature our new 2025 modernized version of the Mini Hydras.
The combo of either an acrylic or delrin bead with one ss bead on either end gives a very versatile (frankly, near perfect) weight, and has the added advantage of being swappable, meaning that you can put the SS bead out towards the knot for slower play and more control, or change the SS bead to the inner side for a lighter and nimbler feeling set and a very different play experience.
