Micro Milos Mala

The Micro Milos are compact natural-material beads made from the dense, heavily lignified region where the coconut fruit meets its stalk. Often referred to as coconut “stem,” this material resembles coconut shell but is substantially thicker, denser, and harder, with a naturally deep brown colour.

Coconut stem has a long history in Chinese wenwan and bead culture, where it is valued for the way it responds to handling. With use, the surface gradually darkens and develops a rich natural gloss and patina. Like many traditional wenwan materials, its new condition is best understood as a starting point—the character of each set continues to develop through interaction with its owner.

The Micro Milo beads measure approximately 7mm in diameter by 6mm thick, creating a small, tactile bead with a substantial feel for its size. Sets are strung on our high-density 1.7mm Kevlar cord and finished with a small metal guru set in titanium, brass, or raw copper.

Short sets are sized to sit as a light single-loop bracelet, while long sets wrap twice around the wrist for a more substantial configuration.

Note that the copper guru beads are completely untreated and begin developing their own natural patina with handling and exposure. Paired with the coconut stem beads, they create a set in which both materials continue to change over time, becoming increasingly individual through use.

Notes

As a dense natural material, coconut stem is resilient but will benefit from basic care. Avoid prolonged exposure to water or moisture, and periodically apply a small amount of conditioning oil to maintain its finish and depth. With regular wear, the surface will continue to develop character, rich patina, and subtle shine.
