Aroundsquare's Hydra Begleri are a fun yet highly capable modern adaptation of the traditional Greek multi-bead begleri. The Mini Hydra design has been praised by elite players as one of the best begleri sets available. There is something special about the size, shape, weight, and multi-bead configuration that makes the Mini Hydras a favourite that players keep coming back to. The Mini Hydras are a slightly down-sized version of the original Hydra beads, 14mm in diameter, and 7mm tall each. They are drilled to accommodate 550 paracord, with an exposed knot.
The ebony wood beads will also darken over time as they absorb oils from your hands. You can accelerate this process by oiling or waxing them with an appropriate non-toxic product.
Bronze and copper are both quite soft, and will wear and patina over time. Copper tend to patina much more than bronze.

The Hydras are extremely playable, and despite their cylindrical shape, are surprisingly nimble. They are less solid and therefore slightly quieter than heavier single-bead designs, and the multiple beads add a nice "fiddle factor" to each set. The rounding of all edges on the beads adds to the comfort and overall feel.

Bought these after getting some cheap ones from Amazon. These feel so much better, the weighting is easier to work with and are much better on the eye.
i have had the mini hydras for the entirety of my begleri journey so far, and i couldn't ask for a more textbook definition of "ole' reliable." they are nimble, well weighted, and extremely simple in its design. they lend themselves well to rolls and whirls, making them amazing for starting out in begleri. i wasn't quite ready for the price of titanium when i started begleri, but i think that this set outclasses many titanium sets in aroundsquares catalogue. best beginner set by a long shot!
Great set! I’m only a beginner and this is my first real set and I am not disappointed, the size and shape makes me feel very confident with rolls and catching the beads! I appreciate the extra bits of paracord that you deliver with the begleri. Thanks from Sweden :)
Highly highly recommend the hydras. I went with the brass bead sandwiched between two ebonys. The pics do not do the ebony justice this rich wood looks much more beautiful in person. After running the delrin everymans for a while the bigger heavier hydras are a nice change of pace; forces me to slow down the flow and really be present.
This is my second set of begleri from Aroundsquare. Wanted something a bit smaller to get better at catching in low grip. Loving them so far. Its amazing how much other sets play from one another. Highly recommend if you want to add another set to your arsenal!
