Everyman Chore Coats
The Everyman Chore Coat is the capstone piece of a long running project we’ve been working on at Aroundsquare, to create a highly versatile, extremely comfortable, set of work/ play anywhere/ anytime clothes. The chore coats are the perfect complement to our work pants and vests. They’re uncomplicated and understated.
The chore coat came about as a response to several failed attempts to purchase a good, basic work coat. We wanted something that would be versatile enough to wear to the office, on a hike, or in the workshop. We found that pretty much everything out there was either over-engineered like some kind of techwear, and/ or cut uncomfortably through the shoulders as if to deliberately frustrate any attempts at raising your arms. The Everyman Chore Coat is our attempt to balance things out. We've removed what's unnecessary, straightened out the lines, and made the whole thing comfortable and functional.
Features include:
- mid-weight 260gsm 100% cotton canvas construction
- fell seams throughout for comfort and durability
- standing collar (aka Mandarin collar or Nehru collar)
- three patch pockets with reinforced stitching
- generous arm and body length to make sure you don’t come up short
- closed cuffs for the sake of minimalism
- branded with a word mark on the left hip
- available in black and grey, and sizes M to XXL and Large Tall.
Sizing notes:
These are a fairly slim fit, and being 100% cotton, they will shrink if washed/ dried hot. If you're planning to wear them primarily with a T-shirt, and to take a bit of care when you wash them, you should be fine in your standard size. If you're on the fence, or plan to wear them over a sweater or other layers, you'll likely want to size up. Size chart is included in the product photos for reference.

The size was exactly as I presumed and as apart of the whole set (which I got), it looks amazing, not too heavy and the material is rugged & comfortable. I'd recommend it to anyone who has been interested in this piece or any of the other apparel options provided by Aroundsquare.
Like everyone else has said, this is a great coat; washing it once (on warm) softens it up and it's very comfy.
re: sizing in particular; I wasn't sure which to go with between Large and Large Tall -- I'm 6'1", 150lbs, so tall and thin, but I'm fairly broad across the shoulders. I got a large, and (after an initial wash) the sleeves come down past my wrists and stop about half an inch before my fingers. Measuring my arm as an alternative way to do sizing, the distance from my armpit to the tip of my middle finger (palm facing down), is about 32".
Basically, the sleeves on the large are almost certainly going to be plenty long enough, unless you want really long sleeves (or have very long arms).
Really nice coat and great sleeve length. Love the way Matt accommodates long sleeves. I would recommend washing it when you get it though as it gets rid of the packing creases and I found it looks more natural. My one tiny gripe is it's missing a loop to hang it up, but definitely not a deal breaker. Buy one.
It was a longshot this would fit me but i still purchased it knowing that and have been able to shrink it after 2 washes. Going to try again before finding a good tailor because i do like it. Hoping AO2 adds size options for shorter and narrower people in the future 🤞🏽
Black and Gray are both perfect. I like baggier clothes and these jackets completely fits my martial artist vibe. :)
