Description

Chef's Special Barrel MKUltras - Mixed Materials

Aroundsquare’s Barrel beads are a shape purpose-built for mala. The design is optimized first and foremost for cycling through beads one by one with the thumb or forefinger. Whatever the practice.. bead counting, breathwork, meditation, or idle movement, the Barrel's smooth convex profile and generous rounding toward the bore makes for a comfortable, intuitive grip in any position or angle.

The Barrels are available in three premium natural materials–Tagua Nut, Kuka (Coquilla), and Yak Horn–as well as our flagship material, polished titanium. All materials are offered in the 2.5mm‑bore configuration on 2mm Kevlar cord with the 20mm titanium Boss Guru and Stupa. For the natural materials, we also offer a lower‑profile 2mm‑bore version on 1.7mm Kevlar, featuring a matching mini guru bead—tagua for tagua sets, yak horn for both kuka and yak horn sets.

  • Tagua nut, often referred to as vegetable ivory, features a naturally white tone and exceptional durability, making it a robust natural alternative to similar seed‑based materials.
  • Kuka (Coquilla) has a warm tan‑brown coloration with subtle grain variation that gradually deepens and darkens through use, developing additional character over time.
  • Yak Horn presents a remarkable visual character: beads range from deep, almost‑black tones to subtle smoky or milky translucent areas, with occasional natural markings that reveal its organic origin. The variation is restrained enough to maintain a clean, cohesive look while offering the depth and individuality that only natural horn can provide.

All three materials are dense and resilient, and will develop a warm patina with handling and age.

As natural materials, tagua nut, kuka, and yak horn will benefit from occasional care. Avoid prolonged exposure to water or washing; for tagua and kuka, periodically apply a small amount of vegetable or wood conditioning oil to maintain their finish and resilience. Yak horn, being a dense keratin material, requires minimal maintenance—wipe clean with a soft cloth and avoid extended moisture exposure to preserve its luster.
