Chef's Specials - 8mm Long Form
Chef's Specials - 8mm Long Form
If you've been following our releases of exotic materials, you likely know that we have slightly modified the design of our 8mm beads--moving to a 3mm bore instead of 3.5mm. This change makes the beads hug the 2mm cord a bit more snugly, making them fall a bit slower during raindrops, and also minimizing any edge rub on the thumb during bead counting. The new beads have turned out beautifully, and while we work our way through the remaining inventory of our original 8mms, we decided to share our enthusiasm for this subtle change by using the new version for a Chef's Special MKUltras setup. This month's Special uses just 33x 8mm beads (compared to 29 for the original short form, and 41+2 for the original long form). This means it is actually closer in number (and cost) to the short forms, but it is set up on a long form cord, featuring a double boss closure (11.8mm and 15mm) and a short beadless tassel. This configuration is designed to be worn as a double wrap on the wrist, with plenty of exposed string, and where it excells is in play. The extra cord between the bead packets allows the set to be flipped much more like begleri than most of the MKUltra setups. The size and weight of the beads makes them discrete and convenient for wrist or pocket carry, and the new bore makes for satisfying raindrops and comfortable bead counting. We're launching these as a special for this month only, but this configuration might end up being one that makes it into the permanent catalogue eventually.
