Remeshok Chetki- Metal Edition

The Remeshok chetki are Aroundsquare's modern take on the jointed plate style chetki which are commonly found in Russia. The name Remeshok comes from the Russian word for "strap", reflecting the clean lines of the set. Each set consists of 18 small rectangular beads, plus two tapered end beads, strung together on 300 lb kevlar cord. The resulting set has a simple, minimalist look, but represents a great deal of refinement and streamlining in the development process.

NOTE:  Previously available models are available at regular pricing.

Details

    • Titanium: The titanium set hits the sweet spot for weight and performance. They're heavy enough to feel substantial and carry momentum easily, yet light enough to not tire the hands during extended play. Great all around set.  ~45g
    • Stainless Steel: The stainless set is hefty, yet very playable. As with the brass, it plays slower than lighter versions. This helps with control, but makes the set less nimble overall. The crisp sound of the SS beads make this set great for raindrops and bead counting. ~84.1g
    • Brass: This heavyweight set is nicely balanced and surprisingly playable. The weight makes it play much slower than the lighter versions, but as with begleri, the heft helps with overall control of the set, and provides greatly enhanced tactile feedback during play compared to the delrin models. This is also a great set for bead counting and raindrops. ~88.1g
    • CopperCopper is a special material. It's the heaviest of the standard materials we offer, the softest, as well as the most interactive with our human skin chemistry. The result is that copper pieces, well used and well aged, tend to take on a very distinctive appearance over time, developing a patina and surface texture unique to each individual piece and owner. ~90.4g

The copper version of our popular Remeshok chetki is finally ready for release, and it delivers everything you'd expect from it. These sets are beautiful straight out of the box, and will become even more distinctive over time. Like the brass version, the copper Remeshoks are quite heavy, making them most suitable for slow, controlled play, and for bead counting. The unique properties of the copper give the sets a bit more grip on the skin compared to other metals, adding a touch of additional control to the play. For the true copper loves, the sets also make a terrific wearable wristband that, on our 1mm kevlar cord, can hold their own against any copper chain or bracelet out there. Accent packs will also be available.

Note: Accent and extension packs of other colours/ materials are available separately under their own product listing.

General Information on Chetki

Chetki, or more correctly, perekidnye chetki (перекидные четки), are a type of flipping beads that developed in Russia. Also known as “Russian prison beads”, the origins of chetki trace back to a linear style rosary. As the story goes, looped rosaries were not allowed in Russian prisons, but the shorter linear style were permitted. With idle time to pass, the flipping of chetki became common, and secular models designed with flipping in mind became popular, often sporting engraved "tattoos" matching those of their owners, or other images of significance. Over time, the manipulation of perekidnye (flipping) chetki (перекидные четки) has developed into an art in its own right, and the secular embodiments of the beads designed purely for flipping have begun to proliferate. Modern perekidnye chetki are specifically designed for manipulation, much like a balisong or a set of begleri, and with practice, a wide variety of tricks and combinations can be performed.
