It consists of two large balls tethered on a string, with two small beads at either end that serve as grips or counterweights. The design of the toy allows players to integrate elements of play from a number of other skill toys, including yo-yos, poi, and others, as well as totally unique styles of play. The idea is to use the different structural elements in order to create different patterns of motion, isolated tricks, and combinations. But as the name suggests, these beads have a unique back story. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur first entry into this new product category is the \"Pozvonok\", meaning \"spine\" in Russian, which is a nod to the roots, as well as descriptor of the form factor. The structure of these beads gives an articulated length which can be flipped in a linear manner, but still has enough flexibility that it doesn't feel rigid along other planes. The simple structure is one that is common in Russian chetki, but our materials give a fresh look and feel to the classic. The slightly weighted ends provide a familiar feel for begleri players, while the overall play experience is dramatically different.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFlipping chetki has elements in common with short game begleri, komboloi manipulation, and and balisong or butterfly knife flipping, and moves from all three can be incorporated into your flow. Although weighted ends are reasonably common in Russian chetki, they are not the standard. Many sets have extended light ends, manipulated with a very quick flipping style. For players wanting to get a taste of both styles, each set of Pozvonoks will include a few additional beads that will allow you to slightly extend the length of your chetki, and also, to swap in lighter ends to give a different feel to the game. Otherwise known as Chinese archer's rings, the banzhi in it's modern form is usually a thickened, cylindrically shaped ring, designed to be worn on the thumb. The history of the banzhi dates back several thousand years, when wide thumb rings were commonly used in archery, to protect the thumb from the heavy tension of the bow string. In the 1800s, as archery became less relevant as a military skill, more stylized and ornamental banzhi became a popular. These banzhi were typically made from jade, horn, or other semi-precious materials. As we do, Aroundsquare's banzhi are an attempt to honour and extend this tradition into the present, with a clean, minimalist take on the traditional designs, and using high quality modern materials. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe banzhi are designed to be worn and appreciated for their inherent characteristics, and are not designed for manipulation. Some basic ring manipulation moves can be performed with them, but they are at their best when handled low key, and they actually work well for breath work and mindfulness. The substantial size and rounded shape of the rings makes them satisfying in the hand and for those of you who are accustomed to always carrying something for flipping around and doing tricks, you may find it's often enough to have something like this on hand. It has a great weight, and while it starts out less smooth on the string than our delrin options and mini ebony version, this is actually a nice feature for those getting into the toy for the first time. The friction between the bores and the cord helps the balls to hang on the string, which is extremely helpful for learning the initial move set. Over time, the cord will smooth out the edges of the bore further, making them slide more smoothly, which is a desirable feature as your skills advance.
